How to Generate a Strong Password You Can Actually Remember

Published April 2025 · 5 min read

Strong passwords don't have to be random gibberish. Here are proven methods to create passwords that are both secure and memorable.

Method 1: The Passphrase Method (Best)

Pick 4-5 random words and combine them:

correct-horse-battery-staple
purple-elephant-dancing-tuesday
coffee-mountain-bicycle-sunset

These are 25+ characters long and nearly impossible to brute-force, yet easy to remember as a mental image.

Method 2: The Sentence Method

Take a sentence only you would know and use first letters:

Sentence: "My dog Max was born on June 15 in Portland!"
Password: MdMwboJ15iP!

Method 3: The Pattern Method

Create a base pattern and modify per site:

Base: Sunny#2025#
Gmail: Sunny#2025#Gm
Amazon: Sunny#2025#Az

What Makes a Password Strong?

  • 12+ characters minimum (16+ is better)
  • Mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, symbols
  • Not based on personal info (birthday, pet name)
  • Unique per site — never reuse
